International Building Code

The International Building Code (IBC) establishes minimum requirements for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It governs the construction, alteration, and occupancy of buildings to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare.

International Building Code (2015)

Adopted by the Alabama Building Commission, the 2015 International Building Code applies to most commercial and multifamily construction across the state. It works alongside the International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings. The chapters below cover how buildings are classified, how big and tall they may be, how occupants exit safely, and the fire-resistance and accessibility requirements that follow from a building's occupancy and construction type.
