Montana building codes

Montana adopts statewide construction codes through the Building Codes Bureau under the Administrative Rules of Montana (Title 24, Chapter 301). Montana adopted the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, with Montana amendments, as the statewide energy code effective March 26, 2010, until the 2012 edition took effect. For building and residential work during this period Montana used the 2006 (not 2009) IBC/IRC. The model-code text below is the edition Montana adopted.

Where verbatim source text is shown, it is reproduced from the code as adopted into law by the jurisdiction, sourced from public.resource.org under the government edicts doctrine (see Georgia v.
