South Carolina building codes

South Carolina adopts statewide construction codes through the South Carolina Building Codes Council under Title 6, Chapter 9 of the S.C. Code of Laws. The 2009 editions of the International Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fire Codes took effect January 1, 2011; South Carolina separately adopted the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code. South Carolina did not adopt the 2009 IRC — it retained the 2006 edition and advanced to the 2012 IRC. The model-code text below is the edition the state adopted.
