Direct answer and reference scope

International Building Code is presented here as a reference within the IBC 2015 collection for Alabama. The International Building Code (IBC) establishes minimum requirements for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It governs the construction, alteration, and occupancy of buildings to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare. Use the Alabama Division of Construction Management to confirm the code edition currently adopted for the project, and compare the model text with state amendments, local amendments, effective dates and the permit authority's interpretation. The ICC code library is the model-code publication path. This Harth page is a searchable reference transcription, not an official code publication, legal opinion or confirmation that this edition controls a particular address. Record the project jurisdiction, application date, occupancy, construction type and amendment set before relying on a section. Adopted by the Alabama Building Commission, the 2015 International Building Code applies to most commercial and multifamily construction across the state. It works alongside the International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings. The chapters below cover how buildings are classified, how big and tall they may be, how occupants exit safely, and the fire-resistance and accessibility requirements that follow from a building's occupancy and construction type.
